Wu Suowei asked, “And you are…?”
“I’m an intern doctor, assisting Dr. Jiang,” the man replied.
Wu Suowei gave him another look and couldn’t help but marvel, Guo Chengyu really went to great lengths — where did he dig up such an unbelievably ugly guy? Not afraid that Jiang Xiaoshuai might have nightmares at night?
The guy was indeed ugly, but he was very gentle.
He brought Wu Suowei a glass of water and said kindly, “Dr. Jiang’s been out for a while, he should be back soon.”
Wu Suowei thanked him, picked up the glass and took a sip, then started chatting idly.
“What’s Jiang Xiaoshuai been busy with lately?”
“Him?” The ugly man spoke slowly. “The past couple of weeks he was vacationing in the Maldives. He just got back a few days ago. Really envy Dr. Jiang, he flies private jets when he travels, has a personal tour guide and a full-time assistant.”
Two words perfectly summed up Wu Suowei’s feelings right then, “Damn!”
Forget the ugly guy being envious, Wu Suowei himself was practically pickled in jealousy. How could people bully others like this?
He was slaving at work all day like a dog, then dragging himself home at night also like a dog. They both latched onto a snake breeder, but why did one get to enjoy fine food and travel while he was left to toil miserably?
Just then, Jiang Xiaoshuai walked lightly into the clinic. “Dawei, when did you get here?”
Wu Suowei looked up, good grief! Just a few days apart and it was like he’d been reborn. His handsome face was radiant, his complexion glowing, his eyes bright and full of charm. From head to toe he exuded the air of someone basking in love and spoiled rotten.
“Living quite the sweet life, huh.” Wu Suowei’s tone was tinged with sourness.
“It’s nothing really,” Jiang Xiaoshuai said modestly.
“Wanna bet I slap you?” Wu Suowei gritted his teeth.
Jiang Xiaoshuai just smiled indifferently, then gave some instructions to the ugly man before heading into the back to change clothes, Wu Suowei followed him in. Not for anything else, just to sneak a peek at any changes.
Hearing footsteps behind him, Jiang Xiaoshuai froze. “Why did you come in here?”
Wu Suowei rubbed his hands and grinned wickedly. “Wanna see how much your little ass has been… nourished.”
Jiang Xiaoshuai snorted. “What are you thinking? There’s nothing going on between me and Guozi.”
“Who are you trying to fool?” Wu Suowei grabbed at his collar and spotted a red mark. He cleared his throat:
“See that? Solid evidence.”
“What solid evidence?” Jiang Xiaoshuai scoffed. “That’s a mosquito bite!”
Of course Wu Suowei didn’t believe him.
Jiang Xiaoshuai undid his collar and bared a wide stretch of chest and stomach. “If he really kissed me, it wouldn’t just be this little spot. Look closer — it’s just a bite. Look, even here — another one, also from a mosquito.”
Wu Suowei was half-convinced. “So what’s going on with you two then?”
“It’s just… like that.”
“What does that mean? Are you together or not?”
Jiang Xiaoshuai hesitated briefly, then muttered vaguely, “Sort of.”
Wu Suowei stared at him changing, watching his bare upper body, pale and smooth, and couldn’t resist reaching out, which made Jiang Xiaoshuai jump three feet.
“Don’t touch me! I’m ticklish!”
There was a time when they used to tickle each other, one as stiff as a log, the other hyper-sensitive. Now the log had learned to feel pain, but the sensitive one no longer allowed anyone to touch him.
After Jiang Xiaoshuai finished changing, they sat on the sofa outside and chatted. “You two went to a movie together just now?” Wu Suowei asked.
“Yeah,” Jiang Xiaoshuai nodded.
“You’re that close and still no physical contact? Who would believe that? When I was with Chi Cheng it was so intense, he never even took me to a movie.”
Damn, all he ever did was direct and star in his own imaginary dramas!
“What’s wrong with seeing a movie together?” Jiang Xiaoshuai said. “We didn’t even see the same one. He watched his, I watched mine.”
Wu Suowei’s mouth twitched. “You’re kidding, right?”
“Do I look like I’m kidding?” Jiang Xiaoshuai looked deadly serious.
Wu Suowei was dumbfounded. “Seriously… what’s wrong with you two? Couples go to movies to hold hands and be romantic and you go and don’t even watch the same show? You guys are nuts.”
“You’re the nut,” Jiang Xiaoshuai retorted matter-of-factly. “Why should we watch the same one? He likes his, I like mine!”
“But the whole point is the atmosphere, it’s not about the movie!”
“I paid for the ticket, why should I watch something I don’t like?”
Wu Suowei was completely speechless. “Let me ask you then,” Jiang Xiaoshuai said. “If you had to sit through a movie you hated, just so you could sit next to him, would you pay for that?”
That completely shut Wu Suowei up.
Of course not! He’d rather go alone, even if he had to sit next to a couple of grannies, at least that’d be novel.
“There you go.” Jiang Xiaoshuai spread his hands.
Wu Suowei muttered, “…So why won’t you let Guozi touch you then?”
Jiang Xiaoshuai fiddled lazily with a little medicine box and said casually, “Because his heart isn’t pure.”
——-
Guo Chengyu ended up in the same situation as Chi Cheng, back when he didn’t have a “little spouse/partner” to look after, he could still sneak a bite of meat every now and then; but once he did have someone to care for, he started living like a monk.
Afraid of getting overheated, he ate vegetarian every day; afraid of stirring up feelings, he didn’t even touch wine. He raised his “little spouse/partner” to be fair-skinned and tender, yet all he did was a good deed, asking for nothing in return.
Even Li Wang felt anxious for him. “Guozi, when are you finally going to get your fill?”
“I’ve never even eaten, how could I possibly be full?”
Li Wang was stunned. “How could you be full…?”
Li Wang was startled into a cold sweat by a sudden, fierce roar, “How could I possibly be full?!”
He immediately shut his mouth and focused all his attention on driving.
