Liu Xuancheng carries a clarity unique to youth. He doesn’t speak much, yet every word bears traces of thought. He takes root in the details, is reborn through his roles, and remains steadfast in his passions.
01 The Color of Memory
Liu Xuancheng’s childhood was spent in Jiaozuo, Henan, a place where all four seasons are vividly distinct.
Spring bursts with lush greenery, summer blazes with scorching sunlight, autumn turns the fields golden, and by winter, the mountains and plains are blanketed in silver, white snow. The rhythm of the seasons not only shaped his perception of beauty but also gave him a natural sensitivity toward it.
When talking about his life in Beijing, he said, “The four seasons in the north are quite similar to those in Henan, so it doesn’t feel unfamiliar.” Perhaps, for him, home has never been just a geographical location, but rather, a way of perceiving the world.

“When I was a kid, I always loved summer because I could drink iced beverages and eat popsicles and ice cream,” Liu Xuancheng recalled. “But as I grew older, I started to prefer autumn and winter. Maybe it’s because the coolness of autumn and the stillness of winter make it easier for me to slow down and reflect.”
This quiet undertone, in a way, can be felt. On set, where music, chatter, and the footsteps of crew members intertwine, he stands out for his calm and silence.
When Liu Xuancheng was a child, he was a playful kid who “loved to tease.”
“I liked teasing other children and then running away,” he said with a laugh, as if transported back to those lively, warm days. Back then, he also loved keeping small animals, there was almost always a dog at home. “Dou Dou, Xiao Bai, Da Huang…” he listed them fondly.
Among them, the yellow poodle named “Dou Dou” has been with him since the third grade of elementary school. “It’s already over ten years old now. It used to be with my parents, but now it’s staying with my grandparents,” he said.

Although his parents were not involved in the arts, their open and supportive approach to education gave Liu Xuancheng the freedom to explore his interests.
“My parents have always encouraged me to try the things I like,” Liu Xuancheng said. “That kind of support made me want to pursue my dreams from a very young age.”
In his memory, there was never a growth path “laid out” for him, only a direction he discovered step by step on his own.

02 Observation as a Method
Liu Xuancheng’s connection with acting also began with his love for movies during his formative years.
“I started going to the cinema in middle school, the sense of awe brought by the big screen was truly captivating,” he recalled. “Whenever a new movie came out and I had the time, I would go watch it. Every time I stepped into a theater, it felt like entering a whole new world like experiencing different lives through film.”
He can no longer remember what the very first movie he saw was, only that it was around that time he began wondering, how did they do that?
“Even back then, I would think about how the actors performed, how a scene was built. If it were me, could I do that?”
He wasn’t just watching the story, he was watching everything behind it.

He said, “Life back then was pretty ordinary, and watching movies gave my emotions a sense of rise and fall.”
This deep fascination with film planted the seed of becoming an actor in Liu Xuancheng’s heart. “I never thought of it as just a fantasy. I always believed that one day it would come true,” he said firmly.
In high school, Liu Xuancheng began systematically studying acting in preparation for the upcoming art entrance exams. “I remember that back then, aside from academic classes, I spent every day practicing lines, physical movement, and acting techniques,” he recalled. “It was exhausting, but every time I thought about being one step closer to my dream, I felt completely recharged with motivation.”

Rather than simply “acting,” he seems more like someone who “experiences” life. He has always been a person who enjoys watching and observing.
“Whenever I’m on a bus or in a car, I never play on my phone. I just like looking out the window, at the road signs, billboards, and passersby, watching their expressions and postures. And then I remember them.”
“I actually really enjoy the process of filming. It allows me to experience all kinds of lives.”
For Liu Xuancheng, the past year has been a milestone. With his outstanding performance, he was selected for the Youth Actor Support Program at the Hengdian Film Festival and the 10th Wenrong Awards, a recognition not only of his acting skills but also of the potential and promise of his future growth.

On his birthday, Liu Xuancheng released his first solo single, “默契” (Tacit Understanding), which received widespread praise on social media.
“When I first heard the demo of ‘默契’, I was immediately drawn to it,” Liu Xuancheng said. “While shooting the single’s cover, we also happened to take some birthday photos, and the release coincided perfectly with my birthday. I received so many blessings that day, it felt truly wonderful.”

As his acting career continues to rise, Liu Xuancheng has also been actively exploring other fields. He began learning dance and physical training to improve his overall ability and stage performance. “I’m definitely trying to step out of my comfort zone,” he said. “Besides professional acting classes, I’ve been consistently practicing singing, dancing, body movement, and learning certain skills to prepare for future filming.”
This persistent pursuit of self-improvement has helped him stand out in the industry.

This sense of observation seems to give Liu Xuancheng an innate actor’s quality. He remembers the shapes of life as well as the faces of people. He noticed, “If I spend a lot of time with someone, I start to become a bit like them.”
His ability to imitate appeared early on. After spending time with friends, he would unconsciously mimic their speech and gestures. “Many people would ask me, ‘Why did you suddenly start acting so much like them?’”. Through this, he was learning, studying, and experiencing. “I like interpreting others, feeling what they feel, that might be my true passion.”
He enjoys observing people and understanding them. He moves gently through the world, but when facing a role, he can open up instantly.

03 A Sense of Perception
“I think I live my life in a very understated way.” That’s how he describes himself.
In reality, his growth has been gentle and gradual, yet every decision he’s made carries a firm sense of self-direction from taking the art exam, to studying acting, to stepping into film work, each move came from his own resolve. He’s never in a rush to arrive anywhere. Instead, he moves forward step by step, between dreams and reality, between observation and performance becoming someone who can perceive and understand everything.

Liu Xuancheng’s MBTI personality type is ENFJ (The Protagonist), outgoing, emotionally rich, and deeply empathetic. Sometimes, he also shifts toward ENFP (The Campaigner). If there were one word to describe him, it might be “perception.”
In conversation, Liu Xuancheng smiles gently, his tone calm and restrained as if he needs a moment to process each emotion before allowing it to surface. “Actually, I don’t really like passing on negative emotions to others,” he said. “I prefer to process them on my own.”
He possesses a kind of delicate sensitivity, not outwardly expressive, but quietly flowing beneath the surface. Sometimes, he dreams dreams so vivid that they leave him dazed. To him, dreaming and acting are similar processes: entering, immersing, and then returning to oneself.
“When I wake up, I often think what happened in the dream was real.” This strong sense of immersion perhaps stems from his careful observation of life and his deep emotional involvement in it.

“No matter in life or at work, I like it when everyone is lively and happy. Keeping a sincere heart is the most important thing,” he said.

He grows amidst light and shadow, hearing the sounds of the world. His act of “breaking boundaries” is a long and gentle journey of self-transformation.
